From time to time I found that some peers left utensils in the common pantry after cooking, more than that, is the sauce around the stove and on the floor, not to mention the uncovered trash bin. One day of a few months ago, when I entered the pantry again, what I found instead was a prominent handwritten notice on the wall, it said: dormitory is an area for communal living, where, for the non-local students, is another “home”, please keep the area clean after cooking and make our “home” a healthy and hygienic environment. I felt so great because it said something at the bottom of my heart! I hope that such notices will never turn up again: everyone being self-disciplined, caring for each other, making u-life more harmonious and there shall be less conflicts. |
Helping each other between fellow classmates is very common, but for once I was particularly impressed and moved. One of my fellow classmates knew that I was going to retake IT test and coincidently she was having a related elective course. She thought that the notes would help me a lot; she wanted to give them to me as early as possible; however we did not see each other very often on campus. Therefore, she asked for my home address and sent the notes to me by post. When I received her mail, there was a glow in my heart! Once again I want to wholeheartedly say “Thank you” to her! |
I once got an unsatisfactory test results so I felt really sad about that. My teacher actually came to comfort me, saying that I was his guaranteed/ favourite student and in the future I could perform better which encouraged me superbly. |
The senior students in the Department of Medicine helpfully shared their experience and taught us how to cope with different things and pressure. |
I remember once I was exhausted and got a sore throat because I was rushing to complete my assignments, revision on mid-terms. Even one of my fellow classmates noticed my voice had changed. Unexpectedly, when we had a project meeting next day, she gave me a packet of herbal candy saying that I needed to sooth my throat and reminded me, “We have a lot of mid-terms and assignments in the resent days so don’t get defeated!” Instantly, not only did my throat felt better, my heart was also encouraged! That glowing heart warming feeling was unforgettable! Making others feel joyful and warm does not necessarily require great deeds, sometimes it only takes a few steps only. |
We often feel uneasy in the face of new environment and things. For example, secondary school teachers would prepare notes for us but this becomes our own duty when we study in the university. When I was confused by the operation of the printer, staff in the library kindly provided support. |
The shuttle bus drivers still diligently drive us around the hilly and steep campus even in the extremely hot weather, I am really thankful for that! |
In orientation camps, the group leaders are really caring and helpful. They provide a lot of suggestions and advice regarding academic areas and interpersonal relationships. |
CUHK campus is so large that it is inevitable to ask for directions. Once a lady (a total stranger) was glad to offer help and guided me to the classroom. On the way, she told me that she always got lost in her year 1. |
I felt so bad for once I could not help shedding tears in the classroom. All at once, my fellow classmates all came to take a pat on my shoulder to comfort me without asking me what happened. I felt so touched and relieved about that. |
Today I joined my colleagues to take lunch in the Franklin, all of a sudden it began to pour rain. I could not move forward because I did not bring an umbrella. I saw two female students pass by and would like to seek help from them however they turned me a deaf ear, rushing away. While I continued to stand still to wait, a boy on the other side take the initiative to ask me if I needed an umbrella. He did not mind to turn back to the original way to escort my destination. This gentle and helpful fellow student really left me with a deep and good impression! |
Every time I go to pool side restaurant for breakfast, the cashier enthusiastically greets, “Good morning! Good morning! I haven’t seen you for a long time, are you too busy with the work recently? …” a sincere greeting, a cordial smile, with a caring heart, just like a heart-warming morning sunshine. |
It is so pleasing to work in the CUHK because not only the colleagues in my office are helpful, even the colleagues upstairs and downstairs are keen to help and teach me the “Office Freshman”, they would chat with me and greet me when I get sick. I am deeply moved by their care and kindness. |
The time when I have recovered from illness coincided with the beginning of the semester therefore returning to office feels like going to a battlefield. Though I had rested for some time, I haven’t regained my energy fully so it was quite hard for me to catch up. Fortunately, I have a group of very caring and considerate colleagues, and it is not just one, but several of them offered to share some work and it made me feel relieved, deeply moved by their love and caring, I want to take this chance to say, “Thank you!” |
Recently I am in great need of collaboration with other departments as I am preparing the launch of a series of activities. Unexpectedly, when I called a colleague for coordination, not only did she feel easy about that, she even initiatively provided additional help. I would like to thank her here, very sincerely. |

My Caring Experiences ......
My expectations towards a "Caring Campus"......
What I can contribute to a caring campus...
In fact, we can find acts of caring in every corner of our campus. A casual greeting, a friendly smile or a helping hand can bring joy and warm wishes to others. If each of us can be a little more considerate and giving our campus can become even more caring and nurturing.

It is our natural to wish to express love and concern to someone we care for and feel good about, such as asking after a friend who has fallen ill, or making extensive preparation to celebrate a classmate's birthday. However, occasional conflicts with friends and family can often trigger negative thoughts and emotions that disrupt our relationship and impair our ability to remain understanding and caring towards each other. To free ourselves from anger, resentment and guilt, it is important to cultivate a forgiving heart. This can be achieved by developing deeper understanding and acceptance of our own as well as others' needs, motives and limitations. Being able to forgive and forget can enable us to maintain satisfying relationships as well as a sense of welling
Practising Forgiveness:
|
Cultivate inner peace and interpersonal harmony
through understanding and forgiveness.
Being appreciative and grateful for what we have can enhance our sense of fulfillment and happiness. Instead of dwelling on what is lacking and feeling bitter and frustrated, we can learn to treasure what we already possess and enjoy. Moreover, being thankful and appreciative towards people around us, particularly those who have enriched our lives, can further enhance our interpersonal relationships.
Expressing Gratitude:
|
Experience true joy and happiness
by being appreciative and thankful.
We can experience happiness and contentment in various kinds of "loving" relationships, whether between friends, family members or couples. However, on occasions, such relationship may be tested and thwarted by frustrations and disappointments. To build and maintain satisfying relationships, continuous investment of time and effort as well as mutual understanding and acceptance are the basic prerequisites. Congruent, positive and effective communication is also essential. Most importantly, we must be ready to actively and unreservedly express affection and devotion to our loved ones through words and concrete actions.。
Expressing Love:
|
Convey your love and affection
openly and sincerely.
If someone offers help when we are facing hardships and setbacks, our stress and pain can be shared and reduced. In turn, when we offer a helping hand or a sympathetic ear to someone in distress, we can help relieve their pain as well as experience the blessing of being able to give. Each one of us can become a Caring Ambassador simply by being watchful of others' circumstances and being ready to offer appropriate support and assistance when necessary.
Showing Kindness:
|
Be generous and charitable as it is more blessed
to give than to receive.
People with high social intelligence have "magnetic" personalities which are appealing and attractive to others. They are sensitive and perceptive to others' reactions, needs and interests. They also possess effective social and communication skills which enable them to make others around them feel valued, respected and appreciated. Social intelligence enables us not only to develop mutually gratifying interpersonal relationships and create harmonious communities, but is also one of the core competencies essential for personal success as it facilities team-building and productive collaboration in the attainment of common goals.
While some people may naturally possess superior social skills, social intelligence can also be developed and nurtured.
Developing Social Intelligence:
|
Communicate with sensitivity,
understanding and genuineness.
Successful teamwork fuels the accomplishment of common goals. One of the most significant factors in achieving successful teamwork is to "get everyone involved". Regardless of whether we are working on group projects or organizing society activities, we can rarely rely on individual efforts to achieve success. Rather, effective "teamwork" is often an important key to success.
As a team member, we should participate actively in order to build team spirit and maximize work efficiency. Our commitment not only strengthens social belonging but also enhances cohesiveness among members. This can enable us to achieve common goals in a mutually caring and supportive environment.
Getting Involved:
|
Build a strong campus community .
through active participation and involvement
